Do RAD Things 🤘🎨

Our students teamed up with skateboard artist Mark Rivard and the results are incredible! They’ve poured creativity, personality, and hard work into their pieces—and they can’t wait to share them with you.

Join us tonight at City Limits from 5:30–7:30 PM for the showcase and see their artwork up close! We know many of you are heading into Spring Break, but if you’re still in town, this is something you won’t want to miss.

Plus—catch us on Fox56 this evening between 6:30–7:00 PM for a sneak peek! 🛹✨

Sometimes the best way to recharge is with a little furry support 🐾💙 Today, the Jessamine County Animal Shelter visited WJHS, giving our students a chance to pause, smile, and de-stress with some adorable animals. From wagging tails to gentle cuddles, these special visitors brought comfort, joy, and a much-needed mental break during the school day. Thank you to the Jessamine County Animal Shelter and our FFA students for sharing these sweet companions with us and reminding everyone just how powerful a little love can be! 🐶🐑🐥🐴

Mrs. Bassett’s 9th grade Government and Civics class had the opportunity to create a piece of legislation and present it at the Kentucky Historical Society for the Project Citizen Showcase last week. Students did a great job sharing their proposed bill, the Adolescent Access to Mental Health Resources Act. All of the judges commented on how passionate the class was about helping others in their school and all across the state. Congratulations to Mrs. Bassett’s class on a job well done!

Everybody Counts Kentucky's Ariahn Barnes works with students each day at WJHS to discuss future plans, employability, and skills they will need to be successful. Yesterday, she hosted our first-ever Etiquette Challenge with Nancy Boatman, giving students a fun and interactive crash course in dining etiquette, table settings, communication and making strong first impressions for interviews. Students enjoyed a buffet lunch from Katie’s Kitchen while learning as well as had the chance to win one of four $25 Amazon gift cards! A great kickoff to what we hope becomes a standout annual event at WJHS!

WJHS Social Studies classes welcomed Grace Jo from The Dissident Project yesterday, who shared her powerful journey of escaping North Korea and starting a new life in the United States. Her story gave our students a deeper understanding of human rights, resilience, and life under a totalitarian regime—true perspective. We’re grateful for her courage and the impact she made on our school community.

Kentucky State Representative Matt Lockett honored Dean Geary (WJHS athletic trainer) at our board meeting last night. Mr. Geary was recognized for stepping in and saving a life at a recent game. In a moment that truly defined leadership, quick thinking and courage made all the difference.

Some wins go beyond the scoreboard—and this was the ultimate save. 👏🏽🏆

Though postponed by weather more than once, tonight the JCS School Board took a few minutes at their meeting to recognize our fall athletes for their outstanding work. The fall season was the most successful in history at West High and we couldn't be more proud of our students-athletes and coaches! Athlete Trainer Dean Geary was also recognized with a proclamation from Representative Matt Lockett for his quick thinking to save a fan at a game in February. Well done, Colts!
